The Nursing leadership team would like to recognize our Clinical Nurse Educators: Tori Martin, Michelle Curran, Susan Mahle, and Cassie Moxley for their continued and ongoing support of our clinical nurses' professional growth and development.
It is hard to decide where to start acknowledging all that they do. Let me try by using our PETAALS criteria for DAISY:
P - Passion/Compassion - These four ladies demonstrate a passion to provide education and training to our nurses in creative ways to meet their needs. What many do not see is the countless hours of building courses to up-load into I-Learn, contributing to First-to-Know monthly education updates, preparing for orientation every month, reviewing and updating content for general and unit-specific courses, responding to Just-in-time needs of nurse managers or new product implementations and of course, nursing annual skills validation week (NAV)! They work tirelessly to ensure the education they deliver is the best it can be.
E- Empathy/Encouraging - Not only do they encourage our nursing team members when challenged with learning new skills, but they are also encouraging and empathetic to each other. Allowing each other the grace to have "bad days" and having their backs when life happens.
T- Trust and Teamwork - Even though each educator has their own "piece of the nursing specialty pie" they will do their best to help out each other with a "can do" attitude! The 4 of them do the work of many. In the rare instance when they do not have the answers- they do know who to call to get the answer. The breadth of their knowledge and contacts goes way beyond our walls.
A- Assurance/reassurance - These 4 ladies are dedicated to making each and every member of the nursing team successful in learning/completing core and specialty skills. The new graduate RN residency program, the SNAP program, and the Preceptor class are favorites of the team because here they see the future of nursing at NHUVA made stronger. The many that have gone through these classes and others, can attest to the assurance provided by the clinical educator, that they too can do this!
A- Appreciation of Unique Meanings - in other words, Diversity. A core value for NH is embodied in each educator. They understand adult learning theory and will adjust their teaching style or provide additional resources for the adult learners who may not learn the best in the CBL way! They also are aware of the night shift learning needs in the scheduling of classes.
L- Love for patient care and the nursing profession - EVERY ONE of these ladies was at one point in their nursing career a great bedside/hands-on nurse. They have chosen the professional development path to ensure that their colleagues get the education and training needed to continue to provide remarkable patient care experience.
S- Selflessness/Synergy - Tori, Michelle, Sue, and Cassie give of themselves endlessly. They too, will skip a break, come in early or stay late to be able to meet with someone or to ensure the classroom is set up or the rosters are printed and any other detail of clinical education that is required just to be sure the class or the information is the best it can be.
Honoring them with the DAISY Team Award truly meets the definition of a "nurse-led team" exemplifying NHUVA's mission and values. You all are role models of collaboration and teamwork that make a difference in the lives of our patients, team members, and our community. Thank you!
