Cindy's warmth and kindness helped us find our footing again and helped heal us during the most challenging time of our careers.
Cindy has been a nurse at Lahey Clinic for over 40 years. She was working in the PACU in Burlington when I first met her when I was a new nurse over 30 years ago. She would bring her patients to 6West, give me report, and help me settle them in. She stood out back then since, during all of our interactions, she was always kind and patient. Eventually, she helped open Ambulatory PACU Burlington, so I no longer saw her.
Fast forward many years to 2019 and our paths crossed again for my job interview in her current department. I was very excited to see her and she is one of the reasons I accepted the job. Cindy is truly an amazing nurse. Her clinical skills are excellent and she tailors her teaching to suit each individual whether they are a patient or staff member. She has her hands in every single aspect of the PACU, Endoscopy, and PAT areas.
Over the last 2 years, I have seen her orienting and educating staff, answering phones, troubleshooting computers, taking patient assignments, being the charge nurse, being the chair of the high-level disinfectant committee, I could go on and on about everything she does....because it is just that...Cindy does EVERYTHING! Cindy does all of this with kindness and compassion.
When speaking with patients and staff, she treats you as though you are the most important person in the world. I recently took over her patient assignment, and the 2 patients and their families all commented on her "kindness" and "gentleness" and how her demeanor put them at ease while in her care. Cindy was separated from her staff when our unit closed during the height of the pandemic. Many were deployed as float nurses and aides to Lahey Burlington. Cindy kept the lines of communication open by texting, calling, helping with educational questions that came up while we worked in our new roles. She stayed positive and encouraged us while exhibiting empathy. When we reunited, her warmth and kindness helped us find our footing again and helped heal us during the most challenging time of our careers.
Cindy's personal commitment to Lahey and her profession is evident in all she does. Her 8-hour shifts mostly turn into 12-hour shifts, and she is seen working most weekends even though the unit is closed. She is a role model and mentor for her Peabody staff and I am truly honored to work alongside her. Cindy is proof that kindness does matter. She is truly a DAISY Nurse.
