I felt cared for and physically comforted, and it brought tears to my eyes. I am certain that her nursing was the turning point in my post-surgical recovery.
I was hospitalized for 5 days after surgery to remove a kidney tumor and part of my kidney. In the first 3 post-surgical days, I was moved to 3 rooms on 3 floors. After the 3rd move, I was still very uncomfortable - in pain, with a leaking drain, no movement in my bowels, and too uncomfortable to sleep. Cindy Nguyen was my evening nurse as I moved into my new room. She fully assessed my situation. She looked at my medical records, talked with me about how I was doing and what was bothering me, and examined me physically. Then, she took action. She repackaged the drain, being careful of my adhesive sensitivity. She cleaned my bed, gave me a clean gown, and brought me another blanket. For the first time in days, I was warm and dry. She noticed my physical discomfort and pain levels and added a muscle relaxer to my medications. This made a huge difference in how I felt. After about 45 minutes, I fell asleep - real, restful sleep, for the first time since my surgery. She woke me to give me my pain medication on time, and I slept again. I felt cared for and physically comforted, and it brought tears to my eyes. I am certain that her nursing was the turning point in my post-surgical recovery. I am glad to say that my recovery out of the hospital is going well. However, I feel confident that the exceptional nursing care provided by Cindy is what facilitated the beginning of my recovery. Her nursing skills are outstanding, and her interest in my good outcome was apparent with every action she took. I am extremely grateful for her efforts on behalf of my healing. I wish to thank her with the recognition of a DAISY Award.
