The best thing I witnessed was that he listened to my sister. While others can disregard the ramblings of a hormonal new mom with mental health issues, he actually listened and was engaged.
Nies was made aware of my sister's (the patient) mental health status, and what could trigger different reactions. The patient had just been discharged earlier that day after having an emergency c-section just 4 days before. Her baby arrived 7 weeks early. She was swollen, had chest pains, leg cramps, headache and high blood pressure and high liver enzymes. She was emotionally spent. Nurse Nies was very attentive to my sister. He searched for a breast pump and warming pads to ease her discomfort, he held a nice flow of conversation, dimmed the lights, and did a multitude of other “small” things that added up to big things. The best thing I witnessed was that he listened to my sister. While others can disregard the ramblings of a hormonal new mom with mental health issues, he actually listened and was engaged. My sister needed that. Thank you, Nurse Nies!
