My friend and I stayed at the Methodist Inn the night before my rotator cuff and bicep surgery. We rode the elevator to see where we had to go the next morning. The elevator doors opened behind us and I thought we were on the wrong floor. We turned around and there was a lady waiting to get on the elevator. After we told her she offered to take us exactly where we needed to go, explained what would happen, and even showed us where pre-op was. She told us she was a pre-op nurse and that she would be on duty when I came in.
The next morning, we went to the second floor desk and I asked the lady to please make sure my pre-op nurse was Cheryl. I was adamant in having her because she took the time to explain things to me, a total stranger at the time. They said they couldn't guarantee it would be her, but I told them to please ask if she could. I was so nervous about the surgery and so overwhelmed by it all. My prayers were answered; my pre-op nurse was indeed Cheryl! She was so extremely kind and compassionate through the prep and then she asked if she could pray with me and my friend. Immediately a calm, a gift from God, came to my body. I was still scared, but I knew Cheryl was there and had been sent to be in the right spot at the right time outside the elevator.
One year passed and I found myself preparing for yet another major surgery: cervical spine surgery. I knew I had to make sure Cheryl was the pre-op nurse again for me. While attending a class at Methodist I asked the instructor to help me locate Cheryl to make sure she was still there; she was! I was so overwhelmed with excitement. I didn't know Cheryl would be working the day of my surgery but I hoped she would. When the time came, I signed in for surgery and I asked for Cheryl and was told she was already assigned to be my nurse! I cried I was so thankful. She was just as amazing as she was a year before and she asked to pray with me and my sons. She is an angel, a nurse of the highest quality, and is so very deserving of theDAISY Award!
