I am writing this in regards to one of the members on your staff who goes by the name of Chase and works for the unit on the 6th floor. Chase was my nurse a few days at the beginning of my stay. I ended up having to leave that particular unit to go to another floor for a brief stay where I then returned back to the 6th floor. I took a few moments and wrote out a comment card for Chase but I just felt like I wanted more people to take notice, more people to hear my experience, but most of all I wanted Chase to not just get recognition but actually receive the overwhelming amount of sincere gratitude I, as a patient, had for him as a caregiver. The DAISY Award is an acronym for P.E.T.A.LS. These are qualities the nominee should be exhibiting. Chase fits so well within the meanings of each letter of the acronym that it surprises me he isn't the reason the acronym came about in the first place.
P- Passion for nursing... He comes in every time I have seen him with a smile. He talks about the process of him learning new things on a daily basis. The passion he shows in every question he asks you, answers you give him, his method of practice, indication of diseases or illnesses, and the way he almost seems to have this library within his mind that he carefully stores all the information he acquires to use should he need to in his bright future.
E- Empathy... He takes his time and asks questions when he is learning about you as both his "new case" and almost as if he is taking notes within his mind about how your illness may affect your life, family, career, and your own passions. He somehow gets you to take down your guard and the five or ten minutes he has to give you attention has made you feel like you have a close friend and advocate on your side fighting for your needs, your rights, and fighting that illness with you. There is someone in your corner now and you no longer feel like you are doing this on your own.
T-trust... He comes when he says he will. You don't need to ask him for things twice. He will round with the doctors and even if you have asked the doctor something 100 times and are afraid to bring it up yet again, he will ask for you. He makes sure the doctor isn't quick to walk away. You always feel well informed.
A- Admirable
L- Love... For me, those two are one and the same. When you sum up the total of all his previous attributes PASSION, EMPATHY, TRUST, they simply add up to being a man of character. This makes him admirable, simply knowing Chase is in a career that was made just right for him.
S- Selflessness sums up his entire personality. He brings so much joy to others. I can honestly say that with more people like him on your staff, your abilities to exceed all patients' expectations are endless. The success of your facility is based on many things but without a good staff, you haven't much to build on. He alone can't maintain a 5-star experience for everyone... but he alone can show others how it can be done. He is an asset to your company. Thank him for taking such good care of me and thank you for giving me the opportunity to experience what it's like to receive a 5-star medical stay.
