There was one moment I looked at her with tears welling up in my eyes, she smiled and said something calming and after that, I felt instantly better.
My daughter was very sick and not coherent for the first few days.  It was also my daughter’s first hospital stay.  Chantal did not know this.

When she addressed my daughter, she told her everything/procedure she was doing and why she was doing it.  As I said, my daughter wasn’t coherent for a few days.  I admire Chantal for treating my daughter as if she were present.  And when my daughter was present, Chantal continued in the same capacity.

Even though someone is not fully awake or aware, I believe they can still hear.  Chantal treated my daughter as if they were interacting together from the start until my daughter was better and they were.

Nurses never know the emotions of the visitors. Chantal first made sure which visitors she could share information with.  I was one of them.  She introduced herself to me initially and every time after that she asked me if I needed anything, or if I needed to know anything.  Every time.  There was one moment I looked at her with tears welling up in my eyes, she smiled and said something calming and after that, I felt instantly better.

To the hospital’s credit, my daughter had some nice nurses and other people who attended to her.  Chantal made a significant impact on me. She is an Extraordinary Nurse.  After my daughter had been home for a few days, I asked her how she felt about her hospital stay.  She said, “Aside from being sick, it was good.” Thank you all, especially Chantal.
