Celeste was standing waiting for the elevator; two visitors were waiting for the elevator as well. The gentleman looked at Celeste and asked if she was a nurse; she answered, "yes" and he said, "I don't feel good, my chest hurts and I have pain in my arm" Celeste told him to stay right there and she would go get a wheelchair. She ran over here (radiology) grabbed a wheelchair and told Deb to call the ER and tell them she was coming over.
Celeste helped get the man seated in the wheelchair and looked at the lady who was starting to tear up. Celeste told the lady that she was taking him to the ER, the lady said this is my brother, my husband is in the Cath Lab and my daughter died recently. Celeste reassured her that it would be ok. She took the gentleman over to the ER and waited with him while they got him checked in and did his EKG. Dr. W, the ER physician, saw him right away. Celeste came back and called the Chaplin to go sit with the sister. Dr. W admitted the man with Cardiology Consult. The patient was seen by Cardiology and taken to the Cath lab by that afternoon. Doctors found a blockage and called another doctor to place a stent. Had Celeste not acted, the man would have had a cardiac event.
