Cathy listened to his concerns, developed a plan with my dad on how to move forward, and collaborated with his provider.
My dad was in the hospital for a prostatectomy and was supposed to go home that same day. Unfortunately, he had complications with anesthesia, so he was admitted to 3E Broderick Pavillion overnight. The next day, Cathy was his nurse. My dad voiced several concerns regarding bleeding, clots, pain, and issues with his urinary catheter due to previously unfavorable experiences at another facility. Cathy listened to his concerns, developed a plan with my dad on how to move forward, and collaborated with his provider. My dad was initially questioning, uncertain, and resistant to doing anything besides lying in bed even though he knew it was better to work toward normal functioning for discharge; thankfully Cathy was able to provide the firm kindness my dad needed for him to recognize he had to be an active participant in his own care. After their conversation, he was much more willing to begin attempting to get out of bed and engage in his care. He spoke very highly of the care Cathy provided and said she was exactly the nurse he needed to be able to get him thinking more positively. I am truly appreciative of all the nursing staff on Broderick for their contribution to his care, and especially to Cathy for encouraging him to make his own health a priority.
