Casey stayed on her day off to get the patient ready, ordered scrubs to wear, and stayed to offer assistance before, during and after the baptism.

Recently, Casey was off work but coming in to check on a patient and his wife she cared for the day before. She knew the patient would be going to have a test that would let them know if there was anything else the physicians could do for the patient's cancer. When she arrived at the unit she saw the wife who was very upset and tearful. They were told there was nothing more the physicians could do. The wife and patient wanted him baptized, full submersion. She told me about the patient's wishes and I contacted our Supportive Care Unit to gain access to the tub room. Casey stayed on her day off to get the patient ready, ordered scrubs to wear, and stayed to offer assistance before, during and after the baptism.

The patient's wife, in a separate nomination, goes on to talk about how Casey made sure everything was as smooth as possible and that she didn't just tend to his medical and physical needs but also to his spiritual needs. The patient's wife goes on to say how Casey will always hold a special place in their hearts for taking her personal time to tend to her husband's spiritual health.

Note: This is Casey’s 2nd DAISY Award!
