My uncle J was a patient for over a week prior to mom and I flying from California to Kansas. The staff was keeping us informed by telephone during that time. We arrived at Stormont Vail directly from the airport at 6 pm and had the opportunity to spend the last precious hours with J, his nurse Caroline and the Chaplin. We can't begin to express our deepest gratitude. We have never experienced this level of care. We were made to feel reassured, informed and welcomed. Mom wants to know how Caroline gets her scrubs on over her "wings". She is an angel and made a very difficult time as comforting as possible. From her warmth, dedication, prompt attention, and sensitivity, she gently and respectfully took care of all of us! We were set up with recliners and blankets and a tray of assorted snacks. She offered J a lavender bath! The room smelled so beautiful. I can't believe the detail and attention to care. We will never forget the memorable time we got to spend with J. He passed at 2:25 am. We find peace knowing he is with the Lord. It doesn't end there! After traveling all day and up all night, we exhausted our options. We decided against a hotel and yellow cab doesn't run at 3 am to Manhattan. Yes, she did! Caroline offered to drive us back to J's house in Manhattan at the end of her shift. In total disbelief, we accepted and sat at J's house most of the morning in amazement at how blessed we are.
