She had such compassion in her eyes, and I could tell she cared.
When I came to the hospital, I was scared. I was there for my mental health, and it was in a strange place with people I didn't know. I stayed in my room, either crying or sleeping. Caroline Pascual came in and told me that was okay. She had such compassion in her eyes, and I could tell she cared. I started meeting the other patients and joining activities and felt better. Anytime I encountered Caroline, she greeted me by name and asked how I was doing. On my last day, she did something so unbelievably kind. She heard that I was anxious about going home because I didn't know what to do to stay in a good frame of mind. She sat down and helped me create a list of things that I liked to do. I knew it would be hard to get out and do them, but she told me to go anyway and that if I wanted to stop, to stop, but just because I did not finish did not mean I failed. She said they use part of something called "mindfulness." It is learning to love yourself a little at a time by giving yourself forgiveness and showing yourself the same kindness you give to others. Then she told me of some sources to learn more. I shed many tears as we talked but came away with coping skills to make the transition to home a little easier. Caroline is such a wonderful, compassionate nurse, and I am so grateful to have met her. She helped me without being asked. She is the best nurse ever! Thank you, Caroline!
