Carol was primary nurse on a premature baby whose Mom did not visit frequently. She made mom a photo book of his first “tub” bath. She also held him at night when he was more stable and able to come out of his incubator for an extended period of time.

The night this baby got sick quickly, Carol was very concerned and communicated closely with the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. Despite her attentiveness he passed away. During his last moments, Carol had tears in her eyes, knowing he was slipping away. When Dr. Clawson pronounced him dead, Carol held his little body close and loved on him one last time with tears streaming down her face.

When the mother arrived to hold her son one last time, Carol was there for her and took her to a private room to spend time with her deceased baby. Carol also attended a small private baptism service performed by the hospital Chaplain in the private room.

She cared for this baby in a special way and was there for him in life and death.
