During Brooke's capstone experiences, she was confronted with various critical situations that required immediate intervention to save the lives of mothers and babies. One incident that Brooke shared with me really caught my attention. Brooke's mother patient had premature rupture of membranes that required emergent delivery of the baby. Of course, this new mom-to-be was terrified at this unexpected turn of her planned pregnancy and labor plans. Brooke was able to identify that this mom was horrified and so scared about the health of her unborn baby. Brooke took the time to sit beside the mom and explain what was going on in the room and explained to her what to expect. Brooke will be starting her professional nursing career as a new graduate nurse on this unit. Western Missouri Medical Center's future L&D patients will certainly benefit from the wealth of compassion, empathy, and advocacy that Brooke will provide. I am very proud of her natural nursing intuitions.
