Brianna reached out to the chaplain and the social worker and together they put together the most heartfelt wedding ceremony for me so that my dad could be there.
Brianna and I recently shared a patient on Blake 12. A previously healthy man with a new diagnosis of cancer. Our patient had a poor prognosis and his family was made aware he could pass in the coming days. His daughter shared with our team that it was her deepest wish to have her father at her wedding, which was planned for May 2021.
Brianna contacted me to request assistance in exploring whether we could offer the daughter to have her wedding at the bedside. I have had the pleasure of being involved with several weddings at Mass General, but I believe this one may have been a record - the wedding was agreed upon, planned, and held all within 3 hours!
Brianna was a vital part of this process. She proactively reached out to Spiritual Care to begin the process of contacting a chaplain, as well as Caring for a Cure, who agreed to provide some funding to make the service extra special. Also, when timing and COVID shutdowns complicated our planning, Brianna saved the day by obtaining a cake from Whole Foods. Brianna did all of this while continuing to provide excellent care to her very ill patient. Brianna's extraordinary efforts resulted in a beautiful afternoon for this family, which was of immense meaning to both our patient and his daughter.

My 84-year-old father was transferred to MGH a week ago today. It has been a whirlwind of a week, to say the least. I found out during this past week that my dad has one of the fastest-growing tumors. Even though so much information was flooding in, staff always made sure I understood everything that was happening. But there is one nurse who stands out to me the most, and that's Brianna. Her sense of compassion is unmatched.
My wedding was originally planned for May 2021, and every little girl needs her dad there. Brianna reached out to the chaplain and the social worker and together they put together the most heartfelt wedding ceremony for me so that my dad could be there. There aren't enough words to be able to describe how grateful I am to Brianna and the whole Blake 12 team. She was able to help me create wonderful memories during a very difficult time. I am so thankful Brianna has been one of the nurses caring for my dad. Thank you so much, Brianna, you are a superhero!
