Brian once again appeared and helped to calm our mom and was instrumental to help me get her to MICU.
Our mom was hospitalized for five days. There were three instances where Brian interacted with our mom and whether he knows it or not, he touched not only my mom's heart but ours as well.
Our mom met Brian in the SICU. Brian was asked to insert a core track and he was so gentle with our mom and talked with her throughout the procedure. The same day the SICU team was unable to get IV access. Our mom had a meta port in place. He went out of his way to call his nursing colleges on the oncology floor and they came down and were able to access and save her one less poke.
The third and most important interaction with Brian came on her 3rd day. Our mom had been transferred out of SICU as she was stable and went to the cardiac floor. Friday morning, she vomited up blood and turned blue. A rapid response was called, and Brian was on the team. My brother was with mom at the time and Brian called me on behalf of my brother who is not medical. Brian let me know the situation with my mom and I went right away to the hospital.
Once I was there, I kept asking why she wasn't being transferred to the ICU. Brian once again appeared and helped to calm our mom and was instrumental to help me get her to MICU. He helped the nurse on the floor check out the things the resident wanted and, in the end, with his help, I was able to speak with the resident in the MICU and Brian helped us get mom further help.
Our mom was transferred on Friday and was stable. She did take a turn for the worst and despite all of the care and intervention, our mom passed away. We all felt the care our mom received was exceptional. Brian really stood out. Our mom had made mention from the first to last interaction with Brian on how nice he was and how professional he was; we really appreciate all Brian did for our mom and we will never forget all he did to assist and did not want her care to go unheard. Thanks, Brian.
