He greeted him with care, humor, and a sense of “feeling safe” under his care. His knowledge of my husband’s needs was amazing.
Since December, my husband has been a patient at IU Health Ball. He was discharged in January. He started IU Home Health upon release of that date. Unfortunately, he had to be readmitted. The point of telling all of these dates is to show the length of time admitted to the hospital. He has received excellent care from nurses, doctors, case managers, palliative care team, transport, dietary….the list goes on and on.

However, on this visit to PCU, he stumbled upon a nurse who is a cut above all the others that he has had. Brandon showed up in his room immediately upon arrival from ER. He greeted him with care, humor, and a sense of “feeling safe” under his care. His knowledge of my husband’s needs was amazing. He sensed that not only had my husband experienced a scary situation that brought him back to the hospital but that I was having a need myself. My mother had just passed away the day before and I was feeling very overwhelmed with both of my loved ones in sad situations. When Brandon found out that my husband was going to miss his mother-in-law’s private family services and was very upset not to be able to go, he told my husband not to worry and that he would find her services online. Can you believe that not only did he find the services, but he used his own personal hotspot for him to have, so that he could watch it, “just in case the hospital’s wifi didn’t work properly!” Wow….just wow!

While I had to be away tending to all of the details of her services and giving her my attention, I never worried that he wasn’t being cared for! What a great feeling! My daughters have also noticed how wonderful, knowledgeable, and caring he is. Our son-in-laws also commented on his personality and professionalism. We all think he is the best! We all decided to get him a gift card for all that he has done. When I offered him a thank you with the gift card, he said he ethically could not accept it and didn’t. He said the intentions meant so much to him! What a good guy! Another testament as to why he is a cut above the rest!

For someone to be as young as he is and have the knowledge, outstanding personality, professionalism, and self-confidence that makes patients and their families feel good, that is just amazing! We absolutely love Brandon and think he should be recognized for everything he has done for all of us in our hard moments, but I’m sure for others in the same situation. Hurray for IU Health Ball for acquiring such an outstanding RN for your staff!
