I came to the Emergency Room early in the morning. Tests were run, nothing much was found and I was going to be sent home but I told the doctor that I cannot go home with this much pain and vomiting. He agreed, and I was admitted for observation. I felt just miserable, feeling so bad, and wanting to just give up. I had no desire to keep going; I was focusing on all the problems in my life until Thursday night, a young man walked into my room. He looked at me and said "Hello". He looked so young and all I was thinking was, why would he want to take care of me? Before he walked out of my room, he gently took my hand and said "Ms. G, I am here for you. If you ring that bell, I will be the one to help you." I smiled, and he smiled back and he left the room. Moments later I felt a shock through my body and I could see the light in my life. I felt a motivation, strength, and a will to get out of the rut that had brought me here. I called the desk and asked for the young man that had just left my room to come back because I needed to ask him a question. When he came back in the room, I told him that I had forgotten his name (I didn't want him to know that I hadn't listened to him when he first introduced himself). He politely smiled and said, "That's okay, my name is Blakely." I asked him "Do you believe in angels?" He said "Yes". I told him, "God sent you to me, you are my angel. This is the first time I have smiled and laughed since I have been here and you played a big part in that happening. If it weren't for you, I would not be sitting up." Blakely asked if he could tell me something and he did not want to offend me - he said, "I said a prayer for you because it looked like you were going through a lot. Is there anything I can help you with to help you rest better?" I told him I hadn't been able to sleep and he could tell that I was restless so he contacted the physician because he wanted me to have "something to help me rest", and I did for the first time since coming to the hospital. Other staff have noticed my change in demeanor and behavior and have commented on how much better I am, and when they ask me why I say "Blakely". I do not have anything to complain about regarding my stay here, I have gotten great care and everyone has been wonderful but Blakely stood out as the brightest light.
