Bethany worked with the patient to find and apply for cancer grants, and within a couple of days was able to get a grant that enabled the patient to get her medication for free.
Bethany is a wonderful oncology nurse! She plays a very special role in cancer patients' lives, as she is with them from the very start of their treatment all the way through the completion of chemotherapy. Many of the patients I see are scared and overwhelmed with their diagnosis, and her positive outlook, years of oncology experience, and willingness to help always helps to foster trust and hope. She wears many hats in the clinic and pitches in wherever help is needed, whether it is to cover triage calls, educate patients on chemotherapy, or train new staff.

One of the roles of the oncology nurse is to help obtain authorization for oral chemotherapy, which is often an onerous and difficult task. One patient of mine was prescribed an oral medication that her insurance would cover but the patient's copay was still $3,000 per month. The patient could not afford such an astronomical co-pay and was in tears at the thought that she might not be able to receive her cancer treatment. Bethany worked with the patient to find and apply for cancer grants, and within a couple of days was able to get a grant that enabled the patient to get her medication for free. This was an amazing resolution to a complicated and difficult situation, and it wouldn't have been possible without Bethany. Thank you, Bethany, for being a compassionate, wonderful nurse!
