Beth took the matter into her own hands and pulled out her own money to provide for this patient to have the medications needed for her to go home safely.
Beth was taking care of a postpartum, non-English speaking patient one morning that needed some compassion and love from those caring for her. Beth gave this patient just that and more. This patient was begging to go home, even wanting to leave AMA just to be home with her new baby for financial purposes. Beth gave this mom her full attention and so much love. She was utilizing the translator all morning to educate this patient and make sure she was aware of the necessary reasons why she should stay until she improved. She walked her through discharge education, taking her oral temperature, and how to properly take her medications for discharge.
However, this patient didn't have the money for the medications necessary for her to go home. That's when Beth took the matter into her own hands and pulled out her own money to provide for this patient to have the medications needed for her to go home safely. Beth truly is a nurse that we all should strive to be like. It's an honor to work alongside her, as well as learn from her. She is someone anyone should pray to have on their team when they are a patient at MercyOne; when things are critical, she's one step ahead. She's a constant reminder of why we all chose to work in this profession- to truly give to those who need it most.
