Beth Burkitt, RN

Med/Surg
A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital
Oneonta, New York
United States
Beth assisted me to respond to a rapid response not because she was on the code team but because she was in a location near where the code was occurring. Beth also happened to be on her lunch break when this occurred.

Beth is a fun-loving light-hearted individual who is never afraid to be honest or let you know how she feels. She makes the workplace fun and makes everyone smile, staff and patients included. Never does she hesitate to assist another staff member or patient in need. She will go the extra mile to ensure everyone has what they need to do their job and that her patients are well cared for.

Beth works day shift on a normal basis, however, she has come in to cover the night shift many times when the hospital is short staffed. She will go home and sleep for 8 hours after a 12-hour shift only to return for another full shift. Beth assisted me to respond to a rapid response not because she was on the code team but because she was in a location near where the code was occurring. Beth also happened to be on her lunch break when this occurred. Beth has also chosen to stay here at Fox instead of returning "home" to her family out of state because of her love for Fox and our patients. She will be continuing her education while she continues to serve the patients of this area.

Beth continues to go above and beyond the typical nursing duties on a daily basis to serve her patients and aide her fellow employees. Working large amounts of overtime to cover short staffing, working night shift or off shifts to help the facility. Responding to codes because she is the closest person and can get that individual the help that they need the quickest. It is nurses such as this that we should be recognizing for their hard work. Beth is a young nurse as are so many of our nurses and we want to encourage them, recognize when they go above and beyond so they continue to do so as they grow. We as a facility are shaping these young individuals and we need to make an example of such a great leader/person/nurse such as Beth for others to follow.
