Bela has been described as a breath of fresh air when she walks onto a unit. She has been working at our hospital for over ten years and has had the same smile, same positivism, and same solid work ethic since day one. She demonstrates the highest level of dedication, motivation, and teamwork, and when assigned to units; she identifies the nurses who have the greatest needs and supports them. She also identifies the new nurses on the floor while she is there and takes opportunities to share her knowledge and experience with them, show them what she calls "tricks of the trade" and teach them every step of the way. She helps develop critical thinking and makes a difference to all who she encounters. "she made my day", "I couldn't have done it without her", "I learned so much", "she is wonderful", "Patients love her and want her back tomorrow", "she is the best" "I would not have got through the shift if it wasn't for Bela" "thank goodness she was here, I would never have left on time". She has a reputation among our team for being a great support and she goes out of her way to check in with all of our team members when she is on her rounds; she provides constructive feedback, guidance, and overall support. During times of high staffing needs, she very rarely says no and will come in even if it is for a few hours to help lighten the load of a unit in need.
Recently while making rounds I encountered a patient who gave a shout out and thank her, stating that she had gone out of her way to help the primary nurse who was so busy. She also sat down and spent time with the family helping them by answering questions and just being present helping and guiding them and allaying their fears. Her first career was a medical social worker and she incorporates her past experiences into her current practice and demonstrates strengths in delivering holistic, person-centered care, and supporting her patients' discharge planning, working toward facilitating smooth care transitions to ensure the best possible patient and family experience.
What we all love the most about Bela is that she never falters in demonstrating her passion for her job, her compassion, and empathy for her patients and her love for her colleagues both on her team and on all the other teams she supports. The quality of her care is exemplary and recognized by all she encounters, the strength of her teamwork and collaborative skills is exceptional and role models staar standards to all. She attends all meetings, advocates for her patients and her colleagues, motivates and inspires our new nurses, and encourages them to reach for the highest level of excellence promoting professional growth for all. An example of her skilled communication was demonstrated when she was assigned to support patients on a med surg unit; when she noticed one of the nurses whose patients she was not assigned to was struggling with challenging and unhappy family members while managing a heavy section. She volunteered to take over the patient and their needs including managing the family for the time she was on the unit to give the nurse a break so she could do her charting.
These small actions of kindness and compassion toward her colleagues is a trademark of who she is. She is always ready to recognize a nurse to raise them up and let them know what a great job they are doing. She is all that is encompassed in a DAISY Nurse and is a joy to know her and work with her professionally for all of our team. She truly is the breath of fresh air that units talk about when she arrives to support their needs and nothing wavers her positive approach to problem-solving and approach to work. When we know she is working we all look forward to her smile. We are all so proud of her and so happy she is a representative of our team and a role model of what a true DAISY Nurse is.
