Our children and I will always be grateful to Becky for the great initiative she demonstrated in caring for him.
We first met Becky Patrick in the fall of 2020, when she came to our home to release my husband from a few months of home health care. We were immediately impressed by how friendly and helpful she was; she proffered names of some potential aides to assist him at home, and we ended up hiring more than one of those people. In early 2022 Becky was assigned as case manager after he had major surgery, which left him with a colostomy, the need for multiple daily infusions of antibiotics, and necessitating the use of a wound vac at the surgical site. Becky became a frequent presence in our home for the year as she led the care for him. She was relentlessly cheerful. She wielded artistry in making dressings for both the wound vac and for wet-dry dressings. When medical supplies did not arrive at our house when needed, Becky called suppliers and made sure that we received whatever was needed that same day. She communicated with his doctors regarding his condition, calling them whenever necessary to get their immediate attention on vital matters. One day during the first weeks of caring for him, Becky noticed problems not related to his daily care. She quickly called for an ambulance to get him to the hospital, where the doctors identified and treated him for atrial fibrillation. She probably saved his life that day. Over the course of the year, he suffered from multiple side effects of medications and treatments. He hallucinated, his sense of taste and smell were off, his skin turned red, was swollen and dry. He was miserable. Becky was willing to try all sorts of remedies to alleviate his discomfort. She actually identified the source of one huge problem: he was allergic to chlorhexidine, an antiseptic used to clean the skin. Once we got the information conveyed to all the other members of his care team, his life got considerably better. Our children and I will always be grateful to Becky for the great initiative she demonstrated in caring for him.
