This nurse cared for me and went beyond what a nurse does.
I was rushed to the Clermont County Mercy Hospital. I had COP – Cryptogenic Organizing Pneumonia and I was having trouble breathing. My oxygen was dropping down into the 60’s and recovery to 94 percent or above was slow. After I came in, they did an x-ray and a CT scan. It was discovered that my right lung was collapsed and I had COVID – 19. I was in the ER alone. My husband was at work, and I was not able to get ahold of him. After being told my lung was collapsed, they then told me that they needed to place a tube in me while in the ER. I was scared and by myself. There was no one to talk or hold my hand and tell me it was okay. The nurse that took care of me was special. From the start, she was by my side, telling me what was going on and reassured me that I would be okay. She held my hand and talked to me when they inserted the tube into my lung. The first tube went to the side of my lung, so they had to re-do it. She made sure I was alright. She made me as comfortable as she was able to by giving me an extra pillow. I also was very cold and I was shivering. She got me some warm blankets and tucked them around me. I was in the ER most of the night and was taken up to ICU later. She came in and checked on me, making sure that I had everything I needed. This nurse cared for me and went beyond what a nurse does. She put ME first! She made me relax and calm down. I have been through the ER many of times, but this visit I will remember because of this special nurse. Her name was Avery. She took care of this sixty-nine year old lady who was alone and scared. She gave me kind words and she meant them! She reassured me that everything would be fine and it was.
