My dad has been in ICU for over a week. There has been a constant stream of nurses, doctors, and techs all week. I appreciate the care he has received. All of the care thus far has been standard care - everything I would expect for good medical care. But out of all the faces we have seen there is one RN that stands out; Ashlen. I feel I must give her recognition for the exceptional care she has provided.
Not only has Ashlen met the needs and cared for my father, but she understood how important it is to keep the family informed. Ashlen never did anything for my dad without talking to him about what was happening. She never left the room without making sure we understood and felt comfortable. She was truly an advocate for my dad and our family. She went the extra mile and pushed for him to receive physical therapy, which was such a needed blessing.
Because of the way she so flawlessly shared her knowledge, skill, and compassion, I feel she is just working in what is her norm. When we left the ICU, I told Ashlen how much our family appreciated her care and hugged her, but I still don't think she understood just how meaningful she was during this stressful time. She is probably already one of the great stars in your facility. As a nurse, I understand the rigors of patient care and family involvement. I can only imagine how this would be in the ICU setting. Ashlen truly went above and beyond for my dad and for our family.
Ashlen - For all you have done; the care, respect, and dare I say, love you have shown my dad, I salute you! You are indeed a DAISY Nurse.
