I have had the special privilege of getting to know April over the past few months. In this short time, I have been truly touched by the love and compassion that shines through her for our patients. She displays a true compassion for patients and her coworkers.

She works as a Nursing Unit Supervisor on Medical Surgical Progressive Care (MSPC) and can commonly be found in patients' rooms, holding their hands, listening carefully, and giving that extra special touch to all around. She never seems busy or rushed with patients, families, or coworkers, but just the opposite. She truly keeps the patients and their families at the center of care by taking the time to truly listen. She establishes a special connection with patients and families that sometimes nurses never seem to reach in their careers.

Recently during a time of high acuity census, a patient was sent to MSPC without the room being presentable for the patient and his family. April waited with the patient in the hall, held his hand, and turned a situation that could have potentially looked horrible to the patient and his family, into a very positive interaction, while waiting for housekeeping to clean the room.

When I look at April, I see the definition of a DAISY. She is truly an amazing person with a compassionate heart and spirit. She is truly special.
