In the early hours of 2/27, her patient died. I knew him from oncology where I'm the chaplain. It was a tough death, a long code, and traumatic for his mom and everyone involved.
His mother spoke with me this morning and said that when it was all over, she was lying on her son's chest. She asked Annie if she knew how to sing "Amazing Grace". Annie did and sang all the verses she knew in a voice that was "just beautiful" according to his mom.
I can't think of a finer example of going above and beyond for a PICU nurse. Nothing in her medical training prepared her for that; it was her brave and generous heart. When people ask me where God is in these moments, I will tell them about Annie Lunnie.
