My 2-year-old son was admitted to ABMC by his pediatrician. It was very unexpected and I was a sobbing mess. The nurse from the clinic escorted me and my son to his inpatient room. Anne was in there already waiting for us. While getting all his information into the system, we noticed the TV wasn't working. Within 15 minutes, the maintenance staff was up there fixing it. She also went and got my son an iPad until the TV was fixed. During our one night stay, Anne was incredible. She let my son hold her stethoscope with her while she listened to his lungs; I can't count how many times she told him how brave he was. She got him a stuffed animal and soft blanket to keep him comfortable. She went over the monitor with me telling me what each number represented while monitoring his heart rate and oxygen levels. As a mother, that was extremely comforting.
Anne showed me where I could get some water, juice, or snacks in case any of us were hungry or thirsty. While we were there, my husband and I felt like she was part of our family, not a nurse. She was amazing with my son. She didn't have to do all of those things, but she did and it made me forget about how scared I was to be there. When we were discharged, she went through all of the paperwork thoroughly with us and held my son's hand as he said "buh bye" to the other nurses. She found a wagon and gave him a ride in it down to where my husband was waiting by the doors with our vehicle. The smile on my son's face was the best feeling, and it was all because of the wonderful care and compassion from this nurse.
