Anna is a truly amazing nurse. She cares and provides the absolute best quality of care for her patients no matter what it takes. She has such a sweet spot for all of our pediatric patients. They are all so unique and she takes that into account. She personalizes every patient's "no-no" which is a soft protective device to cover up their IV lines so they will not be scared by them.
One of our patient's family members wrote this about Anna and her love for nursing- " I won't ever be able to express how grateful I am for the nurses at women's health same-day surgery center. My 2-year-old needed total mouth restoration. He has level 2 autism, husband just deployed, and my sitter had something come up, so I had to bring my 4-month-old to the hospital with us. We woke up at a grueling 3:45 am and spent the next hour and a half driving so we could get him registered for Pre-Op on time. I let the staff know that my son was autistic, and they were so accommodating. I was heartbroken my sitter canceled so I had to bring my 4-month-old. I wanted all of my attention and energy to be focused on my 2-year old. He loves Buzz Lightyear and thinks he is Buzz, as well as a T Rex. He will not use words all the time but roar to you like a T Rex or use Toy Story quotes. I was greeted by friendly faces.
I remember Anna, oh golly I told my husband about her. My son refused to keep his hospital gown on and so he was running up and down the halls in his funky Toy Story undies and the staff thought it was hilarious and embraced him for it. These nurses were playing his favorite dinosaur songs, blowing bubbles, they were incredible, and I am so thankful for how easy they made it. They even signed our care card with a huge T Rex.
The next huge thing was Anna came out while he was still in surgery to give an update and show me the Buzz Lightyear, she had drawn by hand on his "no-no" so he would wake up to something cool and not be scared. I honestly teared up. Thank you for loving on my son and thank you so much for making this easy for me. You are an angel and what every hospital needs. You belong exactly where you are, with children. You did not let Autism define my son, you simply let him define himself for who he is! Thank you."
This is just one example of how loving she is and how Anna goes above and beyond for all the lives she touches. She turned a very scary situation into something special. She always meets her patients where they are on their journey in life and loves them so fully. She cares for her patients and ALWAYS does what is right in the operating room to protect then when they are at their most vulnerable. Anna is a DAISY Nurse for all her hard work and dedication. She is a role model to everybody she encounters. She is one of the most special and strong women I have ever known.
