For years, patients have told me about "a night nurse, Ann, who provides the best care." I was blessed to experience the great care provided by Ann when I had hip surgery.
Ann has a quiet, gentle, matter of fact approach to patient care which I found very calming. She was well aware of my struggles with post-op anemia, light headedness, nausea, and vomiting. She was empathetic to my situation and provided the compassionate care I greatly needed. Since Ann had experienced orthopedic surgery herself, she totally understood what it feels like to be the patient, vulnerable and hurting.
Ann was so patient and understanding when my light-headedness made a trip to the bedside commode unsafe. She made it ok to use the bedpan. She listened to my concern of post-op hematoma, immediately packing my hip in cold packs. The burning pain was relieved, and I was able to get much needed sleep.
Ann was able to connect with my situation, anticipate my needs, and make the difference in my ability to relax, heal and achieve a positive outcome. Abundant blessings and thanks to Ann, and all the amazing nurses on 4C!
