Adolescence is often a tumultuous time for a child and the family. We found ourselves going from having a happy boy to an unhappy teen with suicidal thoughts, depression and ADD. This was followed by repeated suicide screenings at the pediatrician's office, counseling appointments and an evaluation by the Outpatient Psychiatric specialists at Children's Hospital in Aurora.
We decided to seek the care of Dr. S. On our first visit, our son was seen by Amy in a room where a brief history was taken along with his vital signs, height, and weight. My husband and I remarked to one another on the strange set up of the room. The nurse was positioned in such a way that her back was to the patient and she faced the parents.
On our third visit, we pointed this out to Amy. Our next stop was to see the doctor. On our way out, Amy stopped us and invited us to see the "new" room. In a matter of 15 minutes, Amy had repositioned the seating in the exam room to make our son (and other patients) the focus of the nurse's attention thus the center of the interaction.
Not only does Amy exhibit outstanding customer service skills, but she has also demonstrated a caring and compassionate attitude toward our family by listening to what we find distressful and actually fixing it.
Amy, thank you for going above and beyond to make our family feel more comfortable at Children's. Thank you for listening to our concerns and actually being a part of the solution. Sometimes it is the simple things that make a big difference.
