We expressed our concerns to Amanda, she listened with open ears and empathy.
The pregnancy with our son was very normal, along with a normal delivery, but for reasons unknown, he was born unresponsive and had to be resuscitated. Once stable, he was whisked off to the NICU. We were unable to see him for five hours after his birth. Amanda was our nurse several times throughout our stay on the NICU. She went the extra mile making the entire NICU experience less "scary". Amanda spent tons of time in the room with us explaining each and every tube - what it does and how it works. Anytime something beeped, she told us what it was and when to worry and when not to worry. It made us feel empowered to understand everything that was going into the care of our son.
She was also extremely helpful with our breastfeeding journey. Having been sedated, we were unable to try for the first three days. Even after getting the "okay" to start nursing was very difficult. We expressed our concerns to Amanda, she listened with open ears and empathy. She was 100% our advocate. We don't know if she will ever understand what an impact she had on us and our son. We firmly believe that a person's outlook on any given situation can affect the outcome. She completely changed our outlook and state of mind. She was 100% dedicated to our son each and every day she walked in to care for him. Amanda is so extremely deserving and the Nebraska Medicine NICU is very lucky to have her on staff. May God bless her and her family always!
Note: This is Amanda's 2nd DAISY Award!
