Amanda had my daughter on her 3rd day. By this day, my daughter was down to 1L of oxygen and began to feel better. She wanted to get down and play, but being hooked up to an IV, oxygen, and telemetry monitors it was hard to let her down. Amanda brought in a large mat for the floor, toys, and blocks, and then proceeded to sit down and play with her. It was absolutely amazing and nearly brought tears to my eyes. While I know Amanda had several patients to take care of, she sat down for what seemed like forever, on the floor with my daughter, and built towers and designs with blocks. It was the first time I looked at my daughter and she had a light in her eyes like she trusted this caretaker. My daughter had become quite terrified of anyone who walked into the room. It meant so much to me seeing how she was interacting with this nurse and getting to "play". I'm sure Amanda did not feel she was going above and beyond but that had such an impact on our stay and we were able to use the mat several times to let my daughter down and play on until we were discharged home. Amanda also got a 2nd IV started for my daughter on the first try! She's amazing!
