Compassion, kindness, and caring are adjectives commonly assigned to nurses and with good reason. We are a compassionate, kind, and caring profession. But there are some nurses who go beyond, who have a warm heart and tenderness that leads them to do a little bit more for someone in less fortunate circumstances. Alysia Pearce's warm heart and tenderness brought a little extra brightness to some of our long term patients on Christmas day. Led by Alysia, a group of 3 East new graduate nurses wanted to know if they could put together a Christmas experience that would make some of our long term patients feel cared for and special. They decided it would be nice for these patients to have Christmas dinner as a group in an area that was festive. With a little help from some elves, the Pelham room was booked, presents bought and wrapped and the decorations put up! The patients who attended were pleased, one was moved to tears. In that hour and a half, Alysia and her colleagues gave the greatest gift of all - their time and attention. Alysia is a DAISY Nurse whose compassion for the heart and soul of the patient is demonstrated not just during the holidays but in every encounter with those in her care.
