She goes above and beyond for her patients.
I would like to recognize Allison Passmore for her exceptional nursing care of stroke patients. She goes above and beyond for her patients. Her great work is recognized in the treatment of her patients.

Allison was a key team member in administering Alteplase to a walk-in patient within 28 minutes of presentation. This case had many challenges that could have delayed treatment, but Allison pushed though those barriers to get the patient the finest care available.

This patient walked into the ED. Walk-in patients are harder to treat than EMS patients because there is no back story or work up. Allison quickly triaged the patient and called a stroke alert using her expert assessment skills.

CT imaging was not working correctly. After the CT head was performed there was difficulty in obtaining the CTA. Alison thought quickly on her feet and talked with the Neurologist. The decision was made to bring the patient back the ED to start Alteplase with the neurologist at bedside. She did not let an imaging malfunction slow down the treatment of her patient. After Alteplase was started she brought the patient back to the CT to complete the CTA. Her critical thinking skills and team communication resulted in a Door to Need time of 28 minutes. This was the fastest Door to Alteplase time for walk in stroke patients since 2019.

Allison was also a key team member is recognizing a vertebral artery dissection on a patient with vague symptoms. The patient had two episodes of syncope and vomiting since 8am. When she triaged the patient, she used her knowledgeable assessment skills and HRO communication skills to discuss with the ED MD about the possibility of stroke and initiated a stoke alert. The patient’s CTA of the head and neck showed evidence of vertebral dissection. After this discovery the patient was transferred to for Neuro-interventional Radiology and an acute right PICA infarct was found on imaging. Because of Allison’s stroke alert initiation this patient received the best possible care.

These two stroke cases were only 5 days apart! I have been working at Avista as a Stoke Coordinator for a year. I audit all the Stroke and TIA patients who present to Avista. I wanted to recognize Allison’s hard work and dedication she gives to each and every patient she encounters. When I audit a chart and see that she is the nurse I know the patient is getting impeccable care.
