Kudos Alexa for Advocating for Quinton catheter removal on one of your patients who had a working AV fistula. The patient was transferred from CCU today without and had IV access. Alexa saw that there was an order to use the Quinton catheter for access and it has been used to administer medications. Alexa knew that using a Quinton catheter for anything other than dialysis treatment is not the best practice and has a great risk for CLABSI. She escalated the situation to the attending physician and nephrologist and reached out to the Vascular Access Team. For this reason, the Quinton was discontinued and an Endurance catheter was placed. Alexa's knowledge, strong critical thinking skills, and dedication to quality care played a huge role in the safety of her patients. Thank You!
