Alex continuously demonstrates excellence in the care of her patients and families. We had a patient admitted to our unit with a stroke on Saturday. Upon talking to the patient and his wife the following Monday, Alex learned that their children had dropped their mother off at the hospital and not returned. His wife was wheelchair bound and had not eaten for 24 hours. She was not able to get up and go to the bathroom and had not taken any of her medications. Alex contacted social work regarding the situation, and by the end of the day, social work stated there was nothing more they could do because they couldn't get in touch with any of the family members.
Alex then gathered bathing supplies and fresh scrubs and helped the wife shower and change. Alex noticed that the wife had a leg wound. She cleaned and dressed the wound, then made sure that a meal tray was brought up for her. The wife was afraid to ask for help and was so appreciative of the care that Alex provided. Alex is an inspiration every day!
