Our son was in CCU for 22 days because of multiple surgeries. Abbi was often his nurse. We want to recognize the outstanding treatment she gave him during his stay. Our son is developmentally challenged and presents a number of out of the ordinary challenges for caregivers such as clearly communicating his needs and wants. He had difficulty describing his pain or requesting his pain medication. Abbi saw this and was able to help him better choose when and how much pain medication he needed to be comfortable moving and still be alert. Abbi was very effective in gently finding ways to help our son follow his doctor's orders and increase his activity. Abbi could spot the times our son tried to manipulate the staff, but Abbi did not give in to him. When he didn't want to walk, Abbi could encourage him to finish his assigned walk. She was good at noticing changes in his condition and bringing information to the doctor's attention.
What really impressed us beyond her professional competency was her compassion and how she showed she really cared for our son and our family. On one of her days off, Abbi stopped to see our son. On another occasion when my wife was having a hard time dealing with all that my son was going through, Abbi went out of her way to be supportive, explain everything that was going on, and before it was over, giving my wife a much-needed hug. Not only was she professional, personable, and caring at all times, she also went above and beyond what was expected of our son's caregivers. She is the embodiment of what a patient would want his or her nurse to be.

My daughter has been a patient in this hospital for several days and I appreciate the quality of care she is receiving. I do not believe she could get better care anywhere in this country. I would like to commend one nurse in particular, Abbigail Egli. She is always pleasant, friendly and informative while maintaining a very professional demeanor. She exhibits great concern for the patients under her care. I do not have the vocabulary to express all the qualities present in Ms. Egli, so I will only say she is the perfect example of everything a nurse should be. My mother and wife were both nurses. They are retired, but they would be proud to see this lady setting such a fine example and carrying the traditions that they helped establish. We want her to know that her efforts are appreciated more than she knows.
