Teresa Patten, RN, PCU, was nominated by 11 of her peers for her compassion, excellence, commitment to the team and for leading the PCU team during the long night hours.

Terri is always available to lend a helping hand, always advocates for the RN’S on PCU! She is a blessing. Resourceful! This nurse has over 20 yrs of experience caring. Our family members see Terri as a caring individual that she goes above and beyond patient care. Terri always makes her rounds on time; she takes time to interact with the patients and families even in difficult situations she listens attentively. She takes time to talk and know the patients and their families catering to their needs. She engages patients and families in conversation during rounds providing humor, comfort, and information as appropriate. Terri consistently uses the nursing process to support the whole person care Model and establishes special caring connections with patients and their families.

We recently had a patient who was visiting from out of state with their 16yr old son. The son was without transportation and stayed with his father for several days. Terri provided the son with a DVD player, movies from home and brought meals in for the son from her home and from restaurants.

In my 18 yrs of nursing. I can honestly say that Terri is the Best charge nurse I have ever had. She works selflessly and effectively with her staff. She is always fair and considerate of her staffs needs. She has a gift of people skills and is always able to help resolve conflicts between staff, and between staff and patients and or family members.

When it comes to nursing skills Terri is on top of her game. She is always there to help out in emergency situations. We once had a patient who went into sudden SVT in the 170’s. We rushed into the room to find the patient asymptomatic. Terri calmly instructs the patient to bear down and the heart rate immediately dropped into the 120s.

Terri is a confident yet humble nurse who truly deserves this DAISY Award. She is loyal, caring, knowledgeable, dependable, helpful, trusting flexible. One patient we had from Africa had no family here in the states, his hospital stay was about 30 days. Terri brought in DVD’s and videos food from home and restaurants to lift his spirits.

She also completes our schedules with us for our days off. Always tries to get help to come in to lighten or load. Starts our IV, takes pts to Break/ Asst pt with ADL’s. Always eager to learn and teach staff. She is very knowledgeable in all areas. Every night she is in charge of the unit. She always goes above and beyond her role to help everybody. She always spend time to listen to the RNs and Patients concerns and do her best to resolve the issue that makes patient and RN satisfied.

Patients love Terri. She is very engaging and generally concerned about patients well being.

Terri is a very good resource /charge. She is always calm and collected.

It’s always fun working with Terri. She is always up beat and shows concern for us. Terri is our charge nurse at night she used to be our night ANM she not only can triage the patient to different nurses capabilities. She is also able to determine if the patient needs should be met on different unit. I’ve seen her bring in her own movies for families who were young and staying in the hospital room. She also has gone down and brought food for families who had no money to get anything.

Terri is able to step in and take over with any and there have been many problems on the floor and actually solve most of the problems not only is she able to satisfy the patient with his or her needs. She is able to make the staff members feel capable and she is able to teach any new staff member the correct way to do things or teach the old ones new tricks.

Her experience and capabilities are beyond most. She is not only an asset to the patient, but also to the hospital and the staff. She is cheerful, helpful supportive of team members. Every time Terri has worked the previous night, I always know because the patients always ask for her or talk about how wonderful she is! Always reassuring has great report with patient and families. Patient and families upset about the nurse caring for them. She took over and helped everyone at the end; they were very satisfied and even kept the primary RN.

Terri is always ready to help when we need a good example as a teacher. I need help with a patient care assistance she jumps in and helps. She maintains a warm environment of togetherness in the unit. Takes time to accommodate team members up scheduling and assignment. She’s excellent or NGT and IV placement. She is assertive, calm and in control.

Terri always works well with others and is our advocate! This nurse is very resourceful has many years of experience in nursing. As floor nurses we love to work with her. She has a positive attitude. She keeps unit moving up. Always in a perky mood and she keeps our spirits alive. She inspires the team to work together; encourages positive attitudes; positive attitudes; mentors new team members. Always has a smile on her face and a comforting spirit about her. She has a wealth of knowledge and expertise. She takes charge to maintain patient safety. She‘s caring and has been a great ANM Charge nurse.
