... While he had great things to say about all the staff, Stephanie's patient was particularly impressed with her. She was the nurse assigned for the day and the patient had an insulin pump. Per hospital protocol the nursing staff will monitor the patient's blood glucose and then document what the patient gives himself. This is standard practice because the pharmacy does not have the correct cartridges to load every type of insulin pump. When Stephanie was noting how much insulin the patient administered himself, she took the extra step and asked to look at his pump site. None of the other nurses had asked to look at his site per the patient. At that time the patient proceeded to show Stephanie his pump and it was noted that the needle had become dislodged and he was not getting his insulin. She assisted in helping him get this pump back running properly. She went to get him a tegaderm dressing to cover the site to make sure it was secure. The patient was so impressed with this and stated she was "amazing!"

Stephanie is one of my new graduates and this very act shows you the compassion and care she gives to her patient's day in and day out. She caught a potential problem that may not have been identified early on causing the patient further complications and issues. All I can say is WOW!
