Sarah is one of the most compassionate nurses I have ever seen. In the fall, we had a patient who stayed on our unit for approximately 3 weeks; he had suffered a bleed in his brain. He was unresponsive and trached while here, and completely dependent on others for all of his care. Today he and his wife walked on the unit to show us his miraculous recovery. Even though they were here about 9 months ago, the patient's wife still remembered Sarah. She said that even though the patient was unresponsive, Sarah constantly talked to him. The patient's wife said that she learned from Sarah how to care for her husband and constantly talk to him, and this encouragement paid off hugely for this patient.
Another patient recently wrote a letter and said how Sarah always puts patients' needs first. Sarah always exhibits patience and compassion. As a new charge nurse, she has been involved in 2 extremely difficult situations. Sarah never lost her cool or even made judgements about those involved, but instead continued to reassure and comfort the families of these patients. She went above and beyond to provide service recovery, all the while making sure that staff felt supported as well. Sarah is always helpful to her peers, and is one of the most recognized nurses on the night shift for great teamwork. Sarah is a role model, and a definite asset to our unit.
