Recently, I was a patient on your unit in the adult ICU at Magee. I first was transferred to the adult ICU after I bled out from a retained placenta, D&C, then a uterine artery embolization. I was very upset with the events that had occurred that day. Although, I was a little "out of it " from the procedures, I was well aware of my surroundings.
I am a unit director (at CHP) and I understand the values that a nurse needs to uphold in the UPMC community. And Sara did just that. Sara treated me with such dignity and respect. She literally ran her butt off the whole night to make sure that I was free from pain, comfortable, and relaxed. She also attended to my husband who was traumatized with the day's events. She got him warm blankets, pillows and amenities. I know she didn't have to do this, but it eased his mind during this time not to have to worry about the small stuff.
During the night, I woke to Sara emptying my catheter, changing my trash bin, and emptying my uterine balloon. She saw that I was awake and started talking to me. I didn't really know what happened during this time and was asking her questions. She assured me that I was on the mend and that she would take care of me the whole night. She then bathed me from head to toe. As embarrassed as I was, I was grateful for her bathing my body. She was gentle and so caring.
Sara Jordan deserves to know her hard work is worth it. I will never forget her compassion, dignity and respect and her whole-hearted good nature.
