My mother was in the Oncology Care Unit, where she was cared for by a wonderful team of nurses and support staff. My sister and I would like to thank everyone for their professional service to my mother. A hospital stay is not usually a pleasant experience but the three of us agree that your group of dedicated personnel made the best of this patient's situation.
My mother wanted me to especially point out the exceptional care given by Sara Grise, one of your new nurses. She and my mother bonded over the short four days and Sara brought a lot of joy to the room when she came in. She has a happy, cheerful outlook toward her patients and treated my mother with compassion, humor, and a loving touch. When she had to leave the room to get an answer, a towel, or some medicine she returned in a timely manner; we never felt abandoned or forgotten when she was there.
Before my mother was discharged, Sara made sure that she was bathed and dressed to go home. While washing her hair with the special shampoo bonnet, my mother's words were "This feels like a spa treatment!" She urged my mother to try to help herself as much as possible, even though it was difficult.
The night the family heard the prognosis from Dr. J, Sara and Bethany joined us to help everyone understand what was going on and what it meant for my mother's final weeks. Those two were there for all of us when we had to hear the uncomfortable news that nothing could really be done and palliative care was the best thing.
Your staff did their absolute best to make it a good experience for all of us. Thank you for everything you do!
