Sandra was assigned primary care nurse for a patient who was restrained to prevent dislodging or removing a tube that was placed for medical reasons. This patient's family, particularly his daughter, was resolute in her appeal to staff, to treat her father in a respectful manner. Accordingly, the daughter refused the restraints and her approach in making this request was perceived as being angry at the nursing staff for attempting this type of an intervention. Sandra however, was able to patiently explain the safety rational for restraints. Her calm and thorough education helped allay fear and uphold respect. Sandra also communicated the family's concerns to the patient's primary physician and social worker, ensuring everyone was on the same page.

In the words of a colleague, "During all the events with the family, Sandra remained calm, professional, and showed compassion and respectfulness, even in the face of intimidation."

It is a pleasure working with Sandra. She is an excellent communicator, who maintains strong relationships with co-workers and customers. She is both a team leader and team member that fosters unit cohesiveness.

Her director and colleagues alike, describe Sandy as "a consistently positive professional, one who provides exceptional patient care and handles the most difficult of situations in a calmly confident manner."
