Over 10 years ago, I came to C1 with so much enthusiasm to be a part of a great healthcare institution. My transition was the easiest one for I was precepted by Rachel Koshy. It was impossible to summarize in a few words what kind of nurse Rachel is.
Quality & Integrity:
The work she gives embodies the best practice in health care and the integrity she has in her is one of her best values. It was not a surprise that she was chosen as MSN Awardee for Exceptional Integrity in 2015.
She is one of the best resource persons in the unit. She takes part in checking off new arrivals, making sure they are delivering the standard of care required.
Patient Focus & Compassion:
She works best with patient and family. Her warm and approachable demeanors are her best asset in providing the best patient care. The attitude she exudes are exemplary for a staff nurse like her. She is a good patient advocate who will fight for the patient's safety, care and welfare. I have witnessed how she inculcates her voice as a charge nurse to the junior physicians for patients' well-being. Oftentimes, her sound clinical judgment leads to prompt action and saves patients' lives. She was chosen as Best Patient Advocate in 2010.
Teamwork:
Her leadership as a charge nurse, her knowledge, family centered approaches have shaped me into the nurse that I am today. She's not only my preceptor, my colleague but she's like a mom to me and when I worked with her you know things are get done promptly and safely.
I look at her as a role model for what I want to be in the future. I cannot think of another nurse who is more deserving of a DAISY Award, simply because I put Rachel as the BEST in her league.
Over time, she had played different roles in the unit like charge nurse, preceptor, PYXIS and ICIS champion, Retention Link Representative and a lot more. She also leads few activities like Hand Hygiene Awareness Day and Brain Awareness Day. She was the team leader for the working group who worked on C1Nursing Staff Orientation Booklet.
