Patrick is an exceptionally hard worker who always has a smile on his face, no matter what the situation. The Behavioral Health population can be very challenging group to work with. Patrick has a special gift that enables him to make a therapeutic difference in these people's lives. I have personally seen him bring smiles to the faces of people who feel that they no longer have a purpose in life. His compassion and dedication to his patients makes him an everyday hero. He is responsive to the needs of all patients on the unit and will stop whatever task he is working on to make sure their needs are met.
On the Behavioral Health Unit, patients can become upset very easily and sometimes frequently. Patrick is very patient with our patients when they become upset. He takes the time to speak with them about their frustrations and does a great job de-escalating the patients to prevent them from acting out.
Recently a patient was upset and having thoughts of wanting to hurt himself and felt like nobody wanted to help him or listen to him so he began to yell. Patrick told the patient that he would talk to the patient all night, until the patient felt better. He is very empathetic.
Patients often request to have Patrick as their nurse. Not only is Patrick great with the patients, but he collaborates great with his co-workers. Patrick is a team-player. He comes in early, stays late, and picks up hours when the unit is short staffed. He never leaves a task incomplete at the end of his shift.
Patrick deserves this DAISY Award for his outstanding effort and performance.
