I believe that Megan Kempf is truly deserving of a DAISY Award in recognition of her activities as an extraordinary nurse in the Labor and Delivery unit. This opinion is based primarily upon my direct observations over the last years working alongside her caring for, and managing women in labor, and a majority of whom are quite challenging. Megan helps guide them through the rigors of childbirth, and effectively allays their ongoing concerns and anxieties.

I have been especially touched when Megan has provided tender care to a patient presenting with fetal demise. Her warm smile is reassuring to all. She is highly regarded by her fellow nurses, physicians, and ancillary staff. I am sure her empathetic approach providing patient care has much to do with personal experiences.

Besides her patient-oriented duties, Megan has been instrumental in making L&D an even more humane and friendly place to work. She was a superuser for both Peribirth and AECIS, and helped the rest of us adapt to the new technologies. By her own initiative, she is involved with many other activities in the unit. She is assisting with the rollout of the organization's GPS standards of behavior. She organized the collection drives to benefit women's shelters over the past two years, personally making the gift bags to help women in need. She also coordinates the "adopt a family" campaign during the winter holiday season. For our own benefit, she is the champion of the birthday and years of service clubs. Often, this nurse helps to organize impromptu themed pot-luck dinners. In fact, she personally redecorated the staff lounge, after reaching out to the staff for their feedback. Because of all these attributes, Megan Kempf exemplifies what it means to be an Einstein DAISY nurse.
