Our son was admitted to the NICU at Mercy St. Louis. He was assigned to Butterfly 26. All of the nurses we dealt with in the NICU were sensitive and clearly did whatever they could to help him. One nurse went above and beyond that already high standard of the NICU.

Meg had my son in her care for several shifts over the ten days of this NICU stay. She was attentive to his needs and provided the considerate care we came to know in the unit. Moreover, Meg took the time to talk to us as parents of a child in the NICU. Just sharing medical information about him would have been adequate, but she didn't stop there. We had just learned of our son's Trisomy 21 diagnosis, had a five year old at home to take care of, and Mom was experiencing the usual emotional and physical changes.

Meg listened to our hopes and fears to our helplessness. She just listened. Our comfort came from her patience and quiet strength. She wasn't patronizing and she didn't make excuses. She calmed and cared. She nursed our son and his parents back to health at the same time.

She showed genuine concern and caring for her patient and their whole family, sharing our combined distress and joy. She offered her own story and in doing so, let us know that our optimism was the right approach for the whole family. She took what was a horrible experience, and gently guided us to the lesson we needed to learn to have a wonderful future.

We will be forever grateful to Meg Krenn for her caring to our whole family.
