Lynda Sanchez is a registered nurse (RN) who practices in Cardiac Rehab/Heart Institute. Lynda is being honored with the DAISY Award for going above and beyond for the patients and families she cares for. Lynda is described by her patients as going out of her way to ensure they were able to communicate with their physician and for being available to answer their questions both before and after procedures. Patients speak very highly of Lynda and the care she provides and it is not uncommon for Lynda’s previous patients to return to the hospital just to visit her to let her know how much she was valued. Recently, two patients chose to make a special trip to the hospital to see Lynda. These patient’s wanted Lynda to see how well they were doing and to thank her for making a difference in their lives.
Lynda is described by her peers as working effectively with a culturally diverse group of patients and for communicating effectively while teaching patients and families disease processes, healthy habits, and life-style modification strategies. Lynda is known by her peers, patients, and families for being a patient advocate and for communicating care and patient preferences across departments and disciplines.
Lynda is known for taking the time to educate herself on procedures so that she can make use of several teaching modalities to educate her patients, working her schedule around the needs of the patient, and for caring for her patients like they were her own family members. She laughs, teases, and cries with her patients and provides her patients all the tools they need to manage their health status and healthcare needs. Because of Lynda’s compassionate and caring efforts, her patients experience a level of care that exemplifies the impact nurses have in creating an environment where patients and families can thrive.
