When Lindsay Gilmore first came in our room Thanksgiving night we just really clicked and felt so comfortable with her. She is seriously the most patient, kind, and loving nurse I have ever had. Lindsay helped me with nursing our little girl for an hour and a half one night. She would not give up on me until I had it and our daughter was happy! When she would take her back to the nursery I always felt like she was safe and very well taken care of. She was spitting up amniotic fluid the first night and Lindsay calmed my nerves and told me she could take her back to the nursery. I had a list of questions written out and she took the time to answer each one patiently and in a way I understood. We received excellent care from every nurse in the labor and delivery unit but Lindsay was just exceptional.
***
Lindsay is always such a compassionate nurse but went above and beyond on her PM shift recently. She was caring for an infant whose mother was involved in a traumatic C-section that turned critical and ended up in the ICU on a ventilator. The patient's significant other was at work when the patient took a turn for the worse and Lindsay called him at work and encouraged and helped him make his way back to the hospital. Most importantly, however, Lindsay realized the importance of this mom being able to bond with her baby. She took it upon herself to bring the baby to the ICU and placed the baby skin to skin with mom. Despite being on a ventilator, the mom recognized the importance of this moment and with Lindsay's help, held her baby on her chest. Lindsay continued to bring the baby to the mom for visits for the remaining shift. There are few nurses that not only would have recognized the importance of this gesture, but that would go the extra mile and do it, not just once, but several times. Beautiful!
